FAITH - SERVICE - OUTREACH

This committee serves to encourage spiritual growth and fellowship for all GCS families by
coordinating service opportunities and charitable drives to support various organizations in our
community. Committee members plan/execute the Thanksgiving Drive and other service opportunities during the school year.

BEAUTIFICATION

This committee helps to enhance the beauty of our school, year-round. With the help of volunteers, the Beautification committee decorates our school with holiday or seasonal decorations and plantings to create a warm and welcoming environment for all.

 

FACULTY LIAISON

This committee runs the Apple Program, which provides teachers with donated gifts throughout
the school year. This committee coordinates teacher luncheons during Catholic Schools Week and Teacher Appreciation Week. This committee also coordinates volunteers to donate snacks to be brought to the teachers' lounges on a bi-monthly basis.
 
 

BOOK FAIR

The Book Fair Committee runs two book fairs throughout the year, in the fall and the spring.
With the help of Scholastic Books, and potentially other sources, the committee offers age-
appropriate, best-selling books as well as puts together teacher wish lists and required reading
lists. The Book Fair is open for four days to the entire GCS community.

 

HALLMARK

The Hallmark committee spreads celebration and care throughout the GCS community. This committee recognizes the important days in the lives of GCS faculty, staff, and families. Staff birthdays are recognized with a banner hung outside a classroom or office door. This committee also sends cards, flowers, or gifts to families and staff for notable life events.

ANGEL DAY

This committee plans and coordinates a day when GCS families can invite Angels into the lives
of their students (grandparents, aunts, uncles, special friends) to share part of the school day with
them. Volunteer support is required to assist committee chairs in creating invitations, planning a Mass and breakfast, and other details ahead of the day. Additionally, many volunteers are required at Angel Day itself to assist serving the breakfast and facilitating the classroom visits. Parents can only attend Angel Day as volunteers.

DONUTS WITH SANTA

This committee organizes an event for the lower school to meet Santa during the holiday season.
Held in the Convent, Santa comes and brings a small gift for each child. Grades PreK - 1st, plus
siblings, are invited.

BINGO NIGHT

This committee organizes a Family Fun Night event for all the families at GCS to take place
during the second half of the school year. Traditionally, this night involves the coordinating a night of
Bingo games with prizes and raffles for all. The cost for tickets includes pizza.

GIRLS NIGHT OUT WITH DAD/OR SPECIAL SOMEONE

This committee organizes a dinner/dance for PreK-8th grade girls and their fathers, or a special
someone, to be held in the gymnasium.

BOYS NIGHT OUT  WITH MOM /OR SPECIAL SOMEONE

This committee organizes an outing or game night for PreK-8th grade boys and their mothers or a
special someone.

FIELD DAY

This committee works with the athletic director to organize field activities and lunch for grades
K-7 in June.

CULTURAL

This committee strives to increase students’ awareness of different cultures, within the United States and across the globe, by offering a variety of programs. These programs will be planned for the entire student body or smaller grade-level groupings to help students increase their cultural understanding.

HALLOWEEN PARTY

This Committee organizes a Halloween Party in the gym for the students of GCS. Volunteers will support the committee chair by coordinating seasonal activities, pizza, music, and games for an afternoon of fun.

CELEBRATE THE ARTS DAY

This Committee organizes a day to bring a variety of local artists to the school. The kids will
explore different kinds of art filled with interactive presentations and hands-on art activities.

GARDEN

The Garden Committee is responsible for the planning and oversight of the GCS Garden. This committee helps prepare the garden for planting, maintains its upkeep, plans opportunities for student involvement, and creatively integrates gardening into both the curriculum and the GCS community.

PARENT LUNCH DUTY

Parent Lunch Duty invites parent volunteers to supervise student lunch in the cafeteria on Fridays, while also providing our teachers a day off from lunch duty. Parents work in teams of three and can sign up at their convenience. Parents can volunteer just on a selected day, and/or can opt to be specially trained as a "Lunch Duty Captain" as the primary point of contact during Lunch Duty on their volunteer days.

LIBRARY

Parents can support the GCS Library with flexible opportunities to organize books and update the library collection's holdings in a new database. Moving forward, volunteers will periodically be needed to reshelve returned books.

WIZARDS

This committee plans and coordinates the Wizards basketball game which is a lively family oriented event to bring the families and faculty/staff of GCS together for a spirited basketball game against the Harlem Wizards.
