Homework: Handout, Numbers 1-8.Lauralton Hall Science Fair is this Saturday, September 15th, from 8:30 am - 12:30. It's a lot of fun and our girls win first, second, and third prizes often. Most give great reviews. Register on-line. Go to Lauralton Hall Science Olympics for Girls and register. If you decide to send your girls, let me know so I can let Lauralton's Dr. Sue Cavar, '88, who is in charge. Also, I assigned "phone buddies" today. Each students chose one or two, some three or four phone buddies to call at night and Facetime homework together. It is very effective. I encourage you to listen in a little and hear for yourselves how effective it can be.Last, the GCS Science Fair packets will be handed out soon. They call for a signature. Just know they're coming soon.

Reading in class about the Mariana Trench. Video.
Discussing the Science Fair and their "diaries" (page 13 in Science Fair packet) that are due this Friday.
Also, the agreement page (page 5) must be signed by parents and brought back to me. Remember, when your children begin to decide on a project, I want to see the articles that support their hypothesis. For instance, if they're testing the comparative strength of batteries, they should tell me which battery will perform best "based on evidence that they've gathered," and that can be used in an experiment to demonstrate that hypothesis. This would sound something like this. "We think --based on the extensive research we did -- that Duracell batteries will last longer than 3 other brands named in studies. We intend to replicate an experiment already performed that demonstrates this.

1. What am I interested in and want to study? (better to pick kids by interest)
2. Whom will I pick for my group? (once it's done it's final)
3. Research -- 3-5 good research articles on topic. My pet peeve. I want solid info on the subject)
4. Journals by each student.

Assignment
Tuesday I gave out the Science fair Project packets. Please read these over with your children. There are things to consider:
1. Who in the class shares my interest? (discuss this with your children)
2. Whom will I select to be in my group/tem of 2 or 3? (teams will not be allowed to change)
3. Mr. Novia wants 4 or 5 good research articles to back up any topic's hypothesis.
4. Every student must keep a daily journal. (I'll collect them bi-weekly)
5. Sign page 6 and return to me
Due:
Assignment
Great quiz results!! Home work: 8 bullets pgs. 12-15 in textbook.
Science fair Packets will be handed out Tuesday, the 18th, to each student. Please read, sign, and return to me ASAP. Ask your child about who will be in his/her group. Students are allowed to choose and we are pretty strict about insisting that they stay with the same group throughout. Everyone gets the same grade in group so be sure about student groups. Solo work is discouraged; three is a the optimum size group.
