Faculty Friday... Summer is coming!

Mr. Peter Corbin

Founder & Director, Corbin’s Crusaders

When did Corbin’s Crusaders start offering camp at GCS?

This is our second year at Greenwich Catholic School. We’re excited to be back this year, after a successful summer in 2017.

What activities do you offer that might surprise people?

Because GCS has such an expansive campus, we are able to offer adventure-based activities like hiking, archery and skateboarding, in addition to more traditional sports of basketball, baseball, soccer and tennis. Adventure activities give campers the opportunity to try something new. We also have water games to help the kids cool off, and offer swimming twice a day in both the indoor and outdoor pools.

Are there any new offerings this year?

Yes -- We are partnering with GCS to offer a half-day camp option for students enrolled in the GCS Summer Enrichment Program. This option allows students to work through their summer packets in the morning, and then have fun out on the fields with us in the afternoon. The idea for this program has already received a lot of positive feedback from GCS parents.

What can you tell us about your camp counselors?

Our staff is made up of seasoned, year-round experienced and professional coaches. Some of the coaches are college-aged athletes, but the majority of the staff is made up of coaches that work with us throughout the year with our after-school enrichment programs.

What is one of the most rewarding things about ?

Our campers are age 3-14, so we cater to a wide range of interests and skill level throughout the camp. As with many summer camps, there are times when our young and old campers come together for camp-wide activities, and we often see that the older campers want to mentor the younger campers -- they act as role models to them, teaching them some of their own skills, and helping building their confidence.

What’s the best way for parents to reach you to talk about their options?

Registration is open online, and I can help answer questions at either [email protected] or (212) 875-8174. We are also hosting an ice cream party tomorrow, Saturday, April 21st, from 2-4pm at Gofer Ice Cream on East Putnam Road -- stop by!
