2023-24 School Closings and Delays

Closings & Delays

Inclement Weather Procedures and Emergency Closing Notification

Listed below is important information that you will need to know regarding school procedures in the event of school delays and/or early dismissals.

Greenwich Catholic School utilizes text messages and "robo-calls" to inform parents of a school closing or delayed opening. Please be sure to communicate any phone number changes to the Main Office.

Decisions regarding weather closure / delay:
The Superintendent of Greenwich Public Schools decides if there will be a school closing or delayed opening due to weather. Please do not call the school for information about a closure. The text message and "robo-call" you receive will include all pertinent information.

It is important that parents have an alternate drop-off / pick-up plan in place, if necessary, to be sure their child has adequate transportation in the event of an unexpected delayed opening or early dismissal.

School Closing Policies

When it is decided that schools are to be closed for inclement weather, an announcement will be made by Administration in concurrence with the Superintendent of Greenwich Public Schools. Typically, decisions are made by 6am, except in extreme circumstances.

Delayed Openings and Early Dismissals

90 minute delay – Greenwich Catholic School classes begin at 10AM, students should begin arriving at 9:40. Delayed Opening notifications will include information on if/when Before Care will be offered that morning.

Two hour delay – Greenwich Catholic School classes begin at 10:30AM, students should begin to arrive at 10:10AM. PreK has the option to bring lunch and stay through the end of the day (2:30pm). Delayed Opening notifications will include information on if/when Before Care will be offered that morning.

Note:  During midday emergency closings, including inclement weather, a text message and "robo-call" will be sent to parents' cell phones, as well as a notice posted on the GCS website.  Parents, or emergency contact persons, must be available to pick up children in case of inclement weather, emergency evacuation or a midday emergency closing.  Refer to the Parent/Student Handbook for further information.
