"Together in Kindness" Day of Service - March 28

On Thursday, March 28th, Greenwich Catholic School's First Annual Day of Service will join our school community "Together in Kindness," as we celebrate bringing Christ's love to our broader, outside community. All of the children, PreK-8th Grade, will participate and contribute. Students will partner with their "buddies" to complete creative projects and activities that will be assembled and delivered to Malta House.
If you're interested in donating items that will be used for Service Day, please visit our Amazon wish lists:

Together In Kindness Day - FAQs

What is the Malta House?

Malta House is a 10-bed transitional home in Norwalk for pregnant women and new mothers and their babies.  The women come to the House from difficult and/or dangerous situations.  They typically stay at the Malta House for 12-24 months.  It is Malta House’s mission to promote the dignity of God-given life by providing a nurturing home environment, support services and independent living skills to women of all faiths.  While at the Malta House, the women participate in education programs to prepare for a GED or a certificate program at a local college, such as a nursing assistant certificate; they receive encouragement and guidance to foster a positive self-image for themselves and their children; they are advised on managing personal finances to promote self-sufficiency.

What is GCS Together In Kindness Day?

GCS’s First Annual service day will join our school community “Together In Kindness”, as we celebrate bringing Christ’s love to our broader, outside community.  All of the children, PreK-8th grade, will participate and contribute.  Students will partner with their buddies to complete creative projects and activities that will be assembled and delivered to the Malta House.  Examples of the age-appropriate activities planned include creating cards of congratulations or encouragement and wrapping baby gifts or filling diaper bags.  This special Together In Kindness Day will become an annual GCS tradition.  The main day for the initiative this year is Thursday, March 28.

When is Together In Kindness Day?

The Day will run from 8:30am-2:45pm on Thursday, March 28.  Children will gather together in the gym for one class period to complete an activity with their buddies and then return to their classrooms.  All students will participate in a prayer service at the end of the day to give thanks and celebrate our coming together to show love and kindness to those in need.

Are we collecting used items?

Due to space constraints at the Malta House, we are not collecting used items this year.

Will the Upper School students receive Community Service hours?

The Upper School students may earn service hours on Friday, March 1, from 12:30-3:00.  Space is limited.  Please sign up through Sign Up Genius.  A link to the sign up list is on the Day of Service website and will also be sent through the room parents.

The projects done within normal school hours will not be eligible for service hours.

How will the students learn about the initiative?

Your children’s teacher will present the initiative in connection to our March Virtue of the Month, Mercy.  We care for those in need through service to the mothers and babies of Malta House.

How are we fundraising?

We also need donations of new baby items and new “pamper” items for the mommies.  Two Amazon wish lists have been created for this purpose:

--Diaper Bag Wish List—Items to fill diaper bags on Together In Kindness Day

--Mommy Goody Bag Wish List—Items to fill goody bags on Together In Kindness Day

You may access the public wish lists by going to and clicking on “Find a List or Registry”, then entering the name “Faith Service Outreach”.   Please ship the items to the GCS SCHOOL ADDRESS connected to the wish list (the delivery address does not default to GCS automatically).

You may also donate gift cards to local grocery stores, Amazon, Bed, Bath, and Beyond, etc. that we will pass on to the directors at Malta House to buy items as they are needed.  (We are trying to work as best as possible within their space constraints.)  If you would like to donate a gift card, please leave in an envelope marked “FSO” and drop in the PA mailbox at the front office.

How can you help?

We need parent volunteers for our craft projects in the weeks leading to March 28, and for March 28.

In particular, we need volunteers to:

--Knit baby blankets.  Yarn will be supplied.

--Prepare for projects on Thursday, March 21, at drop-off. (Convent Dining Room)

--Decorate and set up on Wednesday, March 27.  (Gym)

--Lead an activity on Thursday, March 28.  Assist with gym clean up after school. (Gym)

Please contact Kim Garcia ( or Andrea Kopilak ( if interested.

Last, but certainly not least, we ask for your prayers.   We pray that through this initiative we will celebrate kindness, good-will, and Christian Charity together.  We pray that we will support the mothers and babies of Malta House and that we will touch their lives in a meaningful and loving way.

God bless you!
