When did you come to Greenwich Catholic?

I’ve been teaching for over 20 years and after teaching in both public and private institutions from PreK through elementary, I was lucky enough to join the GCS family three years ago as the 6th Grade ELA teacher. Greenwich Catholic is truly a special place, and I feel such joy to be part of this community.

What is the writing process for your 6th Graders?
As the year starts, we spend time reviewing sentence structure, vocabulary, context clues, and grammar. These skills are then put to use throughout the year when the students write essays, memoirs, and historical fiction. It’s amazing to see how their writing matures, especially related to context clues and details they use.

What writing genres do you explore with your students?

We study multiple writing styles and genres in 6th Grade ELA. We have Units on Fiction, Fantasy, Science Fiction and Classics, and after reading samples, the students write in those particular genres. When we study memoirs, students do self-reflection and have freedom to choose the style of writing they’ll use to compose their own memoir.

Are there any projects that your students look forward to?

During the 4th Quarter, the students work through classic literature of their choosing. After reading the book, they present a project about it -- this year’s projects included original essays, songs, videos, and multi-media presentations.

What are you looking forward to this summer?

I love to relax, read, write and spend time outdoors. My husband and I enjoy visiting Maine during the summer months, and I also attend Adoration whenever possible.
