GCS 8th Graders visit the Thomas Merton Center in Bridgeport

On November 15 the 8th grade visited St. Augustine Cathedral and the Thomas Merton Center in Bridgeport. They went through the Holy Door at the cathedral and prayed the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy there, then moved to the Merton Center to see how they bring God's mercy to the community. We looked at our trip through the lens of the Great Commandment: “'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'" (Mt 22:37-39) At the cathedral they explored ways that we honor and glorify God through prayer and the architecture of sacred spaces, and at the Merton Center we saw how the Catholic Church brings the love of Christ to our neighbors.
