Religion Grade 7 (Period 7C) Assignments

Instructor
Mr. Mark Radzin
Term
17/18 School Year
Description
Welcome to Grade 7 Religion!

This year we will be primarily studying the life and mission of Jesus through the Gospel accounts, seeking to gain a deeper understanding of Him and His role in our lives. Some keys to this will be an exploration of the religious, cultural, and political environment in Palestine at the time of Christ, a study of the mystery of the Trinity, and the nature of Jesus and the significance of His actions and teachings.

All homework assignments and test preparation materials will be posted to this site. Looking forward to a great year!

Assignment

Extra Credit: Attend and report on an extra-curricular Church event.
  • Attend a Church based event different from anything you've done before-- either one that I post on the bulletin board and/or Website, or one you find on your own (must be approved by me ahead of time!).
  • This could be:
    • a concert of sacred music
    • a special prayer service
    • A youth group meeting (if you've never been to one)
    • Eucharistic Adoration
    • A Latin Mass
    • Another foreign language Mass (especially a language you speak or study)
    • An Eastern Orthodox Mass (there are several Greek and Russian Orthodox Churches in the area, and the Eucharist offered at them is considered valid and fulfills our Sunday obligation for Mass)
  • Write a report on your experience. The report should include:
    • The name, date, time, and location of the event you attended
    • A detailed description of what you saw, heard, etc.
    • Your impressions: What you liked, disliked, what confused you, what enlightened you , inspired you, or got you thinking, and how
  • The reflection should be AT LEAST a full page double spaced, but for a strong grade I would like to see as much detail as possible, so you should expect to write more
  • One event per quarter
  • Do not attend and report on the same type of event (or something very similar) twice!!!

NOT AN ASSIGNMENT...

but some extra credit opportunities!

If you're looking for something to do for the Church event extra credit to bump up your grade, here are a few options that will get you to something interesting before the end of the quarter. Remember, you need to write up a detailed account of what you saw, heard, etc., and a thorough discussion of your thoughts and impressions-- and it needs to be something different than you've ever done before!

Friday, January 19, 7:30 PM
Latin Mass
St. Mary's
178 Greenwich Avenue, Greenwich CT 06830
If you've never been to a Latin Mass, you owe it to yourself to go! Experience the Liturgy as it was celebrated for centuries!

Sunday, January 21, 9:00 AM
Greek Orthodox Orthros and Liturgy
Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church
1230 Newfield Avenue Stamford, CT 06905
Celebrate morning prayer and Mass with our Orthodox brothers and sisters! The Eastern and Western Churches split in 1054, but we recognize each other's Eucharist and attending will be a valid fulfillment of your Sunday obligation-- and a VERY different experience from your typical Catholic Mass!

Will add more if I find more-- and let me know if your parish is doing something special!

Chapter 6 Quiz this Friday!

Short answer will be:
Imagine that you are in the habit of shoplifting. How could you help yourself resist the temptation to steal? What ways would you use? Who can help you? Make sure you reference the four ways mentioned in the book, but you don't have to limit yourself to just those.

You DON'T need to write any more on the moral decision questions on BLM 24 if you didn't do them in class, but I would appreciate you looking at the second scenario and being prepared to walk through it briefly in class tomorrow. DEADLINE EXTENDED!!!

Extra Credit Anyone? Here is the "little" extra credit opportunity... you can do this AND the 5-paragraph essay which will be posted separately:

Extra Credit: Attend and report on an extra-curricular Church event.
Attend a Church based event-- either one that I post on the bulletin board and/or Website, or one you find on your own (must be approved by me ahead of time!). This could be a concert of sacred music, a special prayer service, Eucharistic Adoration, a special Mass, etc. If I didn't post it, run it by me. Also, it should be something you do NOW, not something you did earlier. I want you to go into it trying to engage it in a way that you can report back on it, and I want your impressions to be fresh.

Write a report on your experience. The report should include:
The name, date, time, and location of the event you attended
A detailed description of what you saw, heard, etc.
Your impressions: What you liked, disliked, what confused you, what enlightened you , inspired you, or got you thinking, and how
The reflection should be AT LEAST a full page double spaced, but for a strong grade I would like to see as much detail as possible, so you should expect to write more
One event per quarter

Worth up to ten extra quiz/test points (for maximum points, it better be great!).

You may not attend and report on the same type of event twice (same school year AND year to year!!!)

Even if you mostly use the quizlet, MAKE SURE to look at the study guide-- the short answer question is on it, and this is NOT covered in the quizlet (it has to do with what we were looking at in class today and tomorrow-- tell a Gospel story and explain how some of the knowledge we leaned in this chapter helps the story make sense).

Also be sure to study the map in your book to know the locations of the features listed in the study guide and quizlet-- you will need to label a map on your quiz.
