If you're looking for something to do for the Church event extra credit to bump up your grade, here are a few options that will get you to something interesting before the end of the quarter. Remember, you need to write up a detailed account of what you saw, heard, etc., and a thorough discussion of your thoughts and impressions-- and it needs to be something different than you've ever done before!

Imagine that you are in the habit of shoplifting. How could you help yourself resist the temptation to steal? What ways would you use? Who can help you? Make sure you reference the four ways mentioned in the book, but you don't have to limit yourself to just those.

You DON'T need to write any more on the moral decision questions on BLM 24 if you didn't do them in class, but I would appreciate you looking at the second scenario and being prepared to walk through it briefly in class tomorrow. We will be doing Jeopardy to prep for Friday's quiz after that. Have a great evening!

With the Christmas Show going on Tuesday night, I have decided to EXTEND THE DEADLINE TO THURSDAY!!!

 

We will have some in-class time to work on this (during which I will make the DVD available to access scenes you might want to rewatch), but you should definitely count on doing this for homework as well.

But wanted to let classes know about this event at Our Lady Star of the Sea in Stamford, tonight and tomorrow night. Info is in the image attached.

 

This should be very interesting, and can be used for a writeup for extra credit. Hope you can attend!

For students who did poorly on the Chapter 3 Quiz, a chance for redemption!

 

See attached instructions, and please follow them carefully. Every wrong answer that is corrected and properly written out as a sentence on a sheet of loose leaf paper per the instructions will earn back half credit.

 

The instructions should be clear, but feel free to reach out with any questions and I will do my best to respond.

if you have not done so already. You will need to be familiar with the Biblical accounts of the Infancy Narratives to properly complete your work in class!

Do the exercise at the bottom of p. 36, using the pictures/stories from the top of the page. Keep in mind that you can enter more than one number for each line (each of the ideas might be seen in multiple stories).

Extra Credit Anyone? Here is the "little" extra credit opportunity... you can do this AND the 5-paragraph essay which will be posted separately:

 

Extra Credit: Attend and report on an extra-curricular Church event.
Attend a Church based event-- either one that I post on the bulletin board and/or Website, or one you find on your own (must be approved by me ahead of time!). This could be a concert of sacred music, a special prayer service, Eucharistic Adoration, a special Mass, etc. If I didn't post it, run it by me. Also, it should be something you do NOW, not something you did earlier. I want you to go into it trying to engage it in a way that you can report back on it, and I want your impressions to be fresh.

Write a report on your experience. The report should include:
The name, date, time, and location of the event you attended
A detailed description of what you saw, heard, etc.
Your impressions: What you liked, disliked, what confused you, what enlightened you , inspired you, or got you thinking, and how
The reflection should be AT LEAST a full page double spaced, but for a strong grade I would like to see as much detail as possible, so you should expect to write more
One event per quarter

 

Worth up to ten extra quiz/test points (for maximum points, it better be great!).

Getting in more grades for 1st quarter-- for those who feel you need it, I have extended the deadline for the 5 paragraph extra credit essay-- it ties together what we are doing in Religion class and the current ELA book. Any questions? Just ask!

We are looking to close out our "The World Jesus Lived In" chapter with a Biblical Feast tis Thursday in the Convent during class time. I have asked students to sign up t bring dishes to share, and I will bring the meat and some other side dishes as well. We will share authentic foods eaten in Palestine a the time of Christ and learn about dining practices of the time. 

 

IF ANY PARENTS HAVE SOFA OR FLOOR PILLOWS WE CAN BORROW TO RECLINE ON WHILE DINING, WE WOULD APPRECIATE IT GREATLY! I will bring some of my own as well. Please let me know via email ([email protected]) if you can.

Even if you mostly use the quizlet, MAKE SURE to look at the study guide-- the short answer question is on it, and this is NOT covered in the quizlet (it has to do with what we were looking at in class today and tomorrow-- tell a Gospel story and explain how some of the knowledge we leaned in this chapter helps the story make sense).

 

Also be sure to study the map in your book to know the locations of the features listed in the study guide and quizlet-- you will need to label a map on your quiz.
