Body System Problems and Solutions. We conclude our unit on body systems by considering problems that can occur, and how we deal with them. Here is a link for the document template in Googleslides. The Powerpoint format for the same document follows.
Due:
Assignment
CW09 Body Systems Review Part 3. Our review of the digestive system includes completing the digestion "story," making a full-scale model, and completing a table that analyzes different types of foods we eat.
Due:
Assignment
HW11 Body Systems Review part 4. Students will complete a respiration "story" and build a model lung. We will also discuss polio, a disease mostly of the past that led to the use of a device called the "iron lung."
Due:
Assignment
LAB07 Body Systems Review Part 2. Continuing our review of body systems, student groups will design and complete short experiments related to the nervous system (reaction time) or to the circulatory system (pulse rate recovery).
Due:
Assignment
LAB06 Body Systems Review Part 1. Musculo-Skeletal System Flexibility. We are combining our review of body systems and the scientific method by doing 2-3 short experiments. The first will be this flexibility lab.
Due:
Assignment
STEM04 Body systems. Student groups are researching and developing interactive presentations on different body systems. When complete, we will display these games in a gallery, and have everyone play these games to review key ideas about these body systems-- digestive system, skeletal system, muscular system, circulatory system, respiratory system, and nervous system. One source of information for students is our Glencoe Life Science text.
Due:
Assignment
QUIZ04 This quiz will cover the following topics-- microscopes, tissues and organs, and the musculoskeletal system. A practice quiz is attached that we will review in class.
Due:
Assignment
HW11 Respiration. Students will complete a "respiration story" and build a model lung. See attached document.
Due:
Assignment
Background Reading-- For the next term, grade 7 will be studying cells and body systems. Background reading for this unit includes the Glencoe text, chapters 2,3,4,17,18,19,20 and 21. Online pdf versions of these chapters can be found in the reading resources section of this website. We will intersperse content lessons with reading and reflections on health topics, as presented by the Choices magazine put out by Scholastic; students will borrow paper copies of this magazine for their assignments. PLEASE CONTINUE READING!
Due:
Assignment
HW10 Blood graph. Using a spreadsheet program, students will complete a graph depicting the percent occurrence of different blood types in the American population (document to follow).
Due:
Assignment
When Cells Get Together. (no grade) Cells team up to become tissues, organs, and organ systems. We will be reviewing tissues, several organs, and several major organ systems. Here is the organizer we will use to compile what we learn.
Due:
Assignment
STEM03 Heart valve. In our study of circulation, we understand that the human heart has 4 valves that open and shut to keep blood moving in one direction. Student groups have a challenge now to build a one-way valve to model this process.
